Five killed in road accidents in two districts

At least five people were killed in road accidents in Mymensingh district and at Savar of Dhaka yesterday.

Our Mymensingh correspondent reports: Four people were killed and two others injured when a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Beltali village on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the morning.

Sources said Sayed Hasan, 42, son of Selim Uddin of Trishal upazila, auto-rickshaw driver Arif Mia, 42, son of Abdul Barek Bhuiyan, Atikur Rahman, 22, son of Abdul Hamid of Charpara and Selim Mia, 45, son of Kalu Miah of Pruhitpara were killed as a Mymensingh-bound ‘Ena Paribahan’ rammed into the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite side at around 6am.

SI Ambar Hossain of Kotwali model police station confirmed of the incident.

Savar correspondent said a woman was killed and 25 passengers were injured as the driver of a bus lost control in front of Jahangirnagar University gate no 1 in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, at noon.

The identity of the deceased could not be known.

OC Badrul Alam of Ashulia police station, said the accident had taken place when the driver of a Aricha-bound bus lost control over the steering and hit a tree in front of Jahangirnagar University on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, leaving one dead on the spot.

Among the injured, the condition of the helper is critical.
