A housewife was beaten to death yesterday by her husband over dowry at Dharla village in Kashiani upazila of the district.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kashiani upazila said Nasrin, daughter of Enamul Haque Sikder of Sitarampur village, had been married to Farid Molla for three years.
After the marriage, Farid used to torture her to bring money from her parents. On the fateful day, he beat her up inhumanly over the issue, leaving critically injured.
Locals rescued Nasrin and admitted to Kashiani Upazila Hospital from where she was shifted to Gopalganj Hospital as her condition deteriorated. She died in the hospital.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue. Farid fled the scene after the incident.
SI Sayed Imarat Ali said the police were trying to nab Farid.
