Barisal police arrested two Jamaat-e-Islami activists after an anti-Israel procession in Natunbazaar area in Barisal yesterday.
The detained are Siddikur Rahman and Jahirul Islam Kalam.
Sub-Inspector Shahabuddin said the activists brought out a procession in the area under the banner of Jamaat-e-Islami without taking any permission from the law enforcers.
The detained were sent to Kotwali police station, said the SI.
However, Golam Kabir, second officer of Kotwali police station, said the Jamaat activists were not arrested for participating in the protest procession against Israili attacks in Gaza, rather for torching and vandalising vehicles during hartal.
Jamaat city unit Ameer Advocate Moajjem Hossain Helal said arresting the Jamaat activists from the anti-Israel procession and later indicting them in an old case of violence during hartal proved Awami League government’s association with the Israeli Jews.
