The two city corporations of Dhaka have started the tender procedures for 20 cattle markets in the capital ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) opened its tender box for 8 makeshift markets yesterday and Dhaka South City Corporation will open today.
Chief Estate Officer of the DNCC Aminul Islam opened the tender box at Banani Community Centre in the presence of the bidders. For a total of 8 makeshift cattle markets under the DNCC, a total of 23 bidders submitted applications.
Under the DNCC, the markets will be set up at Uttara Azampur Government Primary School field, open space of Khilkhet Banorupa Residential Project, open space of Agargaon Slum, open space of Eastern Housing at Mirpur, Dhaka Polytechnic Institute playground, open space of Baridhara Block J, open space near Janapath at Uttara Sector 11 and 13 and open space near Kakoli railway station. Besides, Gabtali cattle market has been given lease separately.
No time schedule was given for the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute playground, while the Agargaon-Taltala cattle market will not be set up this year.
“Hasil” – the amount of charge that buyers pay on the purchasing price of cattle – will remain the same as previous year: Tk50 per Tk1,000.
Official sources of both the city corporation said a section of the ruling party men creates syndicates to lease the cattle markets at lower prices, and claimed that section is also active this year.
