Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has called upon the owners of ready-made garment factories to form crisis fund in a bid to face such crisis in the sector.
The minister made the call in a press conference at BGMEA building in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
In the briefing, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan asked the Tuba Group management to pay the bonuses of the workers within the shortest possible time.
The Tuba Group authorities have started distributing wage of July and overtime payments to its workers from 2pm at the BGMEA headquarters in Karwan Bazar area.
As of 6pm, over 1,200 workers of the five units of Tuba Group have received the outstanding wages for July and the overtime dues.
Earlier, the 1,475 workers collected the dues for May and June on Wednesday and Thursday.
At least 1,200 workers of the five factories started hunger strike on July 28 at Hossain Market in the capital’s Badda area demanding the payment of three months’ wages, overtime and festival bonuses together before Eid.
As the workers continued the demonstration, the police padlocked the building on Wednesday and drove away the agitating workers to evacuate the building that houses three factories the following day.
