A woman and her daughter died and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van on Chandpur-Comilla highway at Ghoserhat area on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased are identified as Tahmina, 25, and her four-month-old infant daughter, from Phulchhowa village under Bakila union of Hajiganj upazila in the district.
Police and witnesses said a Chandpur bound auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a Comilla-bound covered van at 3pm at Ghoserhat area, leaving Tahmina and her child dead on the spot.
Tahmina's husband Shahid, CNG driver Taher Gazi and passenger Sharif Hossain were seriously injured.
Doctor Biplob Das of Chandpur Sadar Hospital said two among five people had died before they were brought to the hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment.
