The death toll from Munshiganj launch capsize has risen to 37 with recovery of four more bodies till Friday morning.
The police recovered three floating bodies from Meghna River early Friday while another one on Friday morning.
Being informed, the police recovered the unidentified floating dead body of youth wearing black jeans pant and black-white check shirt from Meghna River at Ulania about 10am, said Ujjal Kumar Dey, Mehendiganj police station officer-in-charge.
Shawkat Anowar, Hizla police station officer-in-charge, said after being informed by the local UP chairman, the Hizla police have recovered the floating bodies of a man, woman and child from Baluchar around 1:20am.
Srinagar police station Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kutubur Rahman said: “A total of 22 bodies were recovered from the rivers till Wednesday midnight. Later, another 11 bodies were recovered Thursday.”
Of the 33 bodies, three were recovered from Munshiganj, eight from Shariatpur, five each from Barisal and Chandpur, 10 from Bhola and one each from Lakshmipur and Madaripur.
As of Thursday, 18 bodies were handed over to the families. Still, 131 passengers have remained missing, according to the control room.
BIWTA Chairman M Shamsuddoha Bhuiyan said they were conducting the operations on a meter by meter basis. “Eight ships and 150 officials from the BIWTA, Cost Guard, Navy and fire service are working in the rescue operation,” he said.
