Villagers vandalised Avaynagar Health Complex in Jessore on Wednesday over the death of a child caused by the negligence of the doctor in charge.
Zishan, 2, the son of Ruhul Amin from Buikra village under Avaynagar upazila, died after receiving treatment from the Medical Assistant Abdul Hannan, as the on duty doctor Abdul Gaffar was not available.
Hannan gave Zishan, who was taken to the health complex for diarrhoea, an antibiotic injection and sent him home, where he died around 10pm.
When the news spread, people from Buikra village went to the health complex together and beat up the medical assistant. They also vandalised the premise during the rampage.
Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Avaynagar police station, said police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
