A half day hartal, imposed by the BNP and its alliances, was observed amid sporadic incidents in Feni yesterday.
No picketing was reported during the hartal hours – 6am to 12 noon. Vehicular movement was normal, long route buses left the district terminal, but no heavy vehicle was seen operating in the district town.
Additional police were deployed at different important points of the town.
Only a single procession, led by district Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nayeemullah Chowdhury Borat, was brought to the streets around 8:30am.
The BNP called the hartal on Wednesday protesting the killing of Baligaon union Swechchhasebok Dal General Secretary Monir. The GS was killed on Tuesday night, and the BNP blamed the Awami League for the killing.
