Dhaka Wasa yesterday signed a deal with four NGOs to provide water connections to Sattola Slum dwellers in the city’s Mohakhali area.
Engineer Taqsem A Khan, managing director of Dhaka Wasa, and representatives from Dustha Shasthya Kendra (DSK), Nagar Sheba, NDBUS and Bangladesh Association for Social Advancement (BASA) signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at Dhaka Wasa’s conference room.
Under the deal, around 8,000 families will be benefited by legal water connections, reports UNB.
Taqsem Khan said Dhaka Wasa is committed to providing legal water connections to all the slums of Dhaka city by December 2015.
Dhaka Wasa has received the Water Leaders Award-2013 at the Global Water Summit held in Seville, Spain last year for its success in providing legal water to low-income group in the capital, he said.
Taqsem said an amount of US$ 11,000 Dhaka Wasa received with the award is being spent on providing legal water to the low income community of the Sattola Slum.
