Police have unlocked the main gate of Hossain Market in Badda where the Tuba Group workers have been observing a hunger strike in demand of the payment of their dues.
Police broke the lock and entered into the building around 12pm. The police personnel also drove some workers away from the building.
Meanwhile, tension is prevailing in the area as some of the police entered the building and many people are being barred from entering it.
Anjuman, a worker of Tuba Group, said: "The time keepers took our indentity cards and singures when we left the building last night [Tuesday] and when we returned back in the morning, we found the gate locked up."
She said: "Neither we are being allowed to enter the bilding nor they have returned the indentity cards."
Medicines are being supplied to the workers from the back side of the building, she said.
Earlier in the morning, someone locked up the main gate of the building.
The workers have claimed that the police locked up the gate in the early hours of Wednesday.
However, the police officials present in front of the building denied the claims of the workers.
BGMEA officials started distributing dues of Tuba workers from 10am. A total of 265 among 1427 workers of Tuba Group collected their dues from BGMEA building as of 5pm.
At least 1,200 workers from five factories under the Tuba Group have been on a hunger strike for nine consecutive days at Hossain Market in the capital’s Badda area, demanding the payment of three months’ wages, overtime and Eid bonuses.
