Journos protest restrictive broadcast policy

Journalist leaders have claimed they have been betrayed with the recent Broadcast Policy-2014.

The leaders of Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union and Dhaka Journalist Union came up with the claim during a human chain programme held in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The leaders said they would hold discussions with other journalists and other media personnel in protest to the broadcast policy.

On Monday, the cabinet gave its final approval to the draft of National Broadcasting Policy.

The draft policy provides for establishing an “Independent Broadcast Commission” to monitor the activities of the television channels and radios.

The commission would formulate a code of guidance or programme code for the broadcasting institutions and regulatory authority comprising four specific criteria into the code.

Earlier, the cabinet sent the draft policy back, recommending the inclusion of its observations in the policy.
