PM orders all-out efforts to rescue sunken launch

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the authority concerned for making all-out efforts to rescue the launch that capsized in the Padma river with over 150 passengers on board.

PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told the Dhaka Tribune that the premier ordered the Navy, coastguard, fire service, BIWTA and local administration's all-out efforts to rescue the launch.

A launch carrying with at least 150 on board capsized in Padma near Mawa ghat in Munshiganj on Monday morning.

Locals rescued around 50 people from the spot. Two bodies have been recovered till 3:40pm, police said.

The launch, Pinak 6, was heading towards Mawa ghat from Kawrakandi, BIWTA Assistant Manager Abdul Alim said.

The divers' team of Navy, Fire Service and coast guard are conducting a search and rescue operation.
