Workers of a readymade garments factory have staged demonstration and work abstension demanding overtime remuneration at Baroipara under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur on Sunday morning.
The workers of Hatchong BD Limited said the factory authority had recently closed the overtime remuneration for their extra working hours.
As the authority refused their demand, the workers left their workplace and started peaceful demonstration in front of the factory in the morning.
Officer-in-Charge of Gazipur Industrial Police 2 Mohammed Zakir Hossain said alike workers of other sweater factories, workers of Hatchong BD Limited have been forced to work on contract basis.
"It contradicts with the government policy of giving the overtime payment," he added.
To harmonise with the other factories, Hatchong BD Limited stopped paying overtime money since last June, said the OC.
Zakir Hossain mentioned that additional police were deployed at the factory area to avoid any untoward situation.
