A district correspondent of Bangla national daily Prothom Alo has been detained over the unnatural death of his wife.
A team of Kotwali police picked up the journalist, Panna Bala, up from his Faridpur house at around 1pm on Friday.
He was produced before a district court on Saturday morning. The court fixed Sunday to hear his bail plea, said Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station Syed Mohosinul Haque.
He said: “We have arrested him on the basis of a murder case. We will fix the next course of action after getting the autopsy report.”
Earlier on Friday morning, police recovered the hanging body of Panna's wife Joyonti Sarker from the ground floor of their house.
Later, Joyonti's brother Monoj Sarker filed a murder case with Kotwali police station accusing Panna Bala, his sister Tripti Bala and mother Anjoli Bala.
According to the case statement, Panna and his family members tortured Joyonti to death for dowry and hanged her on the ceiling fan.
