Ex-Deputy Speaker LK Siddiqui dies

Former Deputy Speaker Engineer LK Siddiqui of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, also ex-water resourcesminister, passed away at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Friday morning. He was 75.

BNP Vice Chairman LK Siddiqui, who was suffering from respiratory diseases, took his last breath at around 10:45am. 

He left behind his wife, a daughter, three sons and a host of well wishers to mourn his death, said Aslam Chowdhury, general secretary of BNP Chittagong district (north) unit.

His body will be brought to Dhaka on Saturday and his first Namaz-e-Janaja would be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday at 9.30 am, said Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, president of the city unit of BNP in Chittagong.

He would be buried at his family graveyard at Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Sunday after Namaz-e-Janajas in Chittagong city’s Jamiatul Falah Mosque and Chattagram Ma O Shishu Hashpatal and his native village at Sitakunda, he said.

He was elected as a member of parliament in 1979, 1991, 1996 (6th parliament election held on February 15) and 2001 from Chittagong-4 (Sitakunda) constituency.
