At least nine people have been killed and over 50 others injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Sirajganj and Takurgaon districts on Wednesday.
Our Sylhet Correspondent reports: Four people have been killed and 20 others injured as a bus skidded off the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Autirbari area under Dakshin Surma upazila in the district early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Protibha Chakrabarty, 55, her granddaughter Anamika Chakrabarty, 7, Abdul Mukti, 60 and Samuj Mia, 55.
Daksin Surma police station officer-in-charge Mursalin has confirmed about the deaths.
The accident took place as the bus driver of Sunamganj bound Nur Ananda Paribahan lost control over its steering and it skidded off roadside ditch, leaving four people dead on the spot and 20 others injured, the OC said.
The injured were sent to diffident hospitals in Sylhet and the bodies were kept in Daksin Surma police station, he said.
Our Sirajganj Correspondent reports: At least three people, two of a family, have been killed in two separate road accidents in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased are auto-rickshaw driver Ujjal, 20, his brother-in-law Shahin, 30, and Siddique, 50.
Bangabandhu police station (West) Officer-in-Charge TM Aminul Islam said: “A speedy-driven passenger bus of Ritu Enterprise ran a auto-rickshaw over near Sayadabad Bridge around 12 noon, leaving Ujjal and Shahin dead on the spot and three others injured.”
“Siddique was killed and three others were injured as a auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a human hauler at Kaira Bazar,” said Ullapara police station Officer-in-Charge Tajul Huda.
Our Thakurgaon Correspondent reports: Two people have been killed and 25 others injured in Thakurgaon road accident early Wednesday.
The deceased are Harun, 20 and Hamidul, 30, hailed from Mirzapur village of Atwari police station of the district.
SI Jamil Hussein of Thakurgaon police station confirmed about deaths.
He said: “The accident took place at 4:30am when a bus hit a pick-up van on Thakurgaon-Dhaka highway in Gauripur area of Thakurgaon, leaving two dead and 25 injured.”
The injured were admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
