Four people have been killed and 20 others injured as a bus skidded off the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Autirbari area under Dakshin Surma upazila in the district early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Protibha Chakrabarty, 55, her granddaughter Anamika Chakrabarty, 7, Abdul Mukti, 60 and Samuj Mia, 55.
Daksin Surma police station officer-in-charge Mursalin has confirmed about the deaths.
The accident took place as the bus driver of Sunamganj bound Nur Ananda Paribahan lost control over its steering and it skidded off roadside ditch, leaving four people dead on the spot and 20 others injured, the OC said.
The injured were sent to diffident hospitals in Sylhet and the bodies were kept in Daksin Surma police station, he said.
