About eighty thousand members of twelve thousand families in 40 villages of 13 upazilas under 4 districts of Barisal division celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday following the calendar of the Saudi Arabia.
Mawlana Riazuddin at Shah Sufi Mamtajia Jame Masjid of Harinafulia under ward-26, Mawlana Delwar Hossain at Jahangiria Shah Sufi Mamtajia Jame Masjid of Tajkathi under ward-23, Mawlana Bashiruddin at Shah Sufi Mamtajia Jame Masjid of Zia Sarak under ward-22 of Barisal City Corporation (BCC), led the Eid prayers respectively.
Besides, Eid prayers were led by Hafez Md. Saimun at Saheberhut under Charkawa union and Mawlana Sohag Rana at Patang of Barisal Sadar upazila.
Jahangir Shikdar, another follower of Babuganj under Barisal district, said Eid ul-Fitr Jamaats were held on Monday at different places of Kedarpur, Ulankathi, Khanpura, Madhavpasha of Babuganj, Sharikal of Gournadi, Sreerampur, Badartuni of Muladi, Sundarkathi, Afalkathi of Bakerganj, Chandkathi, Tiakhali of Sadar upazila, at least two places of Hizla and Mehendiganj upazilas under Barisal district.
Eid ul-Fitr prayers were also held at different places of Bhola, Patuakhali and Jhalakathi districts on Monday.
Sources said they are the followers of Kaderia, Jahangiria and Chishtia Tarika and Pir of Elahabad Sufia Darbarsharif at Kanchan Nagor and Pir Shaheb of Mariachi Darbar Sharif of Satkania under Chittagong district and Badarpur under Patuakhali district.
The followers were the residents of 40 villages of Babuganj, Bakerganj, Hizla, Muladi, Mehendiganj, Sadar upazilas of Barisal, Barisal city, Rangabali, Galachipa, Baufal, Kalapara and Sadar upazilas of Patuakhali, Charfesson upazila of Bhola and Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi district.
Abdur Rashid, one of the followers, said they usually celebrate all religious festivals according to the calendar and customs of the Saudi Arabia.
Golam Rahman Mir, another participant of the Eid festival, said they started the Ramadan fasting from June 29 following the Saudi calendar.
