Severe traffic congestion in Savar

Severe gridlock has been created on Dhaka-Aricha, Ashulia-Baipail-Abdullahpur, Nabinagar-Chandra highways in Saver, causing immense sufferings to the home-bound people ahead of Eid.

On Sunday afternoon, the authorities of the RMG factories in Savar area have announced Eid holidays. 

Since then, those factory workers began to gather in various bus stands in Ashulia and Savar to return their home on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Meanwhile, about 5 km tailback has been created from Unique Bus-stand to Jamgara, Narsinghpur, Jirabo on Abdullah-Baipail highway since Sunday morning.

Severe traffic caused gridlock in about four kilometer road in Savar Bazar Bus Stand, Police Station Stand, Nabinagar and Nayarhat area on Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Apart from this, about 6 km severe traffic congestion has also been created from DEPZ to Chandra on Nabinagar-Chandra road. 

A driver of Nabil Paribahan said he had been trapped in traffic for almost an hour in the Nabinagar bus stand area on Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Another driver of National Travels claimed the same. For nearly an hour he had been trapped on Abdullah-Baipail road.

A passenger, Jharna, a garment worker, got on a bus on Sunday afternoon from Savar to go to her home in Rajshahi to celebrate Eid together with all her family.

But she has been trapped on Asuliyara Baipail bus stand area for an hour due to traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.

OC Mahbubur Rahman of Savar Highway police said the congestion was created for standing buses in different stands in the area.  However, he hoped the traffic will be resolved very soon.
