A sub-inspector of police has been killed and his nephew injured critically in a road accident at Madhupur Bazar area on Mymensingh-Haluaghat Road in Tarakanda upazila in the district on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Abdul Motalab, 55, a sub-inspector posted at Kalmakanda police station in Netrokona, Ali Ahmed Mollah, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda police station said.
SI Motalab, son of late Abbas Sarker hailed from Gohailkandi village in Tarakanda upazila.
Police said Motalab went home on Eid vacation on Thursday. He was going to Tarakanda Bazar accompanying his nephew Shawon riding a motorbike on Friday afternoon.
When he reached at Madhupur Bazar area, a microbus coming from opposite direction hit his bike, leaving them critically injured around 4.30pm.
They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) but on-duty doctors later referred Motalab to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated, said Ali Ahmed.
He died on the way to Dhaka around 7pm, the police official added.
Shawon, 13, is undergoing treatment at MMCH.
Police seized the microbus but its driver managed to flee.
