Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nurul Islam of Tangail sadar police station has succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital on Saturday.
Tangail Police Super Saleh Mohammad Tanvir has confirmed about the death to the Dhaka Tribune.
Nurul Islam was shot on Friday midnight while he was conducting a drive at East Adalatpara in the town to arrest an alleged terrorist Nur Islam Ulka, the police official said.
Tangail sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Aktaruzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune that police, acting on a tip-off, made a raid at the house of alleged terrorist Nur Islam Ulka at 12am.
Sensing police presence, Ulka escaped by shooting at police.
At that time, ASI Nurul Islam sustained two rounds of bullet injuries to his chest and one round of bullet to his hand.
Later, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition where he was kept on life support.
At 11:45am on Saturday, the ASI succumbed to his injuries, said the OC.
Following the shooting incident, police conducted a raid at East Adalatpara and arrested four persons involved in this connection.
