Rickshaw puller shot dead in AL factional gunfight in Ctg, 3 injured

A rickshaw puller was shot dead in a crossfire during a gunfight between two factions of local Awami League (AL) of Chittagong city’s Sher Shah area Wednesday night over establishing supremacy in the area and over collecting extortion money.

The deceased Miraz Uddin, 20, son of Aminul Haque, was pronounced dead by on-duty doctors after being rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Sub-Inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge of CMCH police camp.

Besides, three persons of both the rival groups – Nur Hossain, Anwar and Mohammad Rahim – were shot during the clash and were admitted to the CMCH, he said.

Father of the deceased yesterday (Thursday) morning lodged a case with Bayezid police station in this connection accusing 25 people and police arrested three of them, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) Dipak Jyoti Khisha of Panchlaish circle of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.

He also said two local groups of Sher Shah area – Alauddin group and Anwar group – locked into clash around 9pm on Wednesday.

Later, they engaged in a gunfight, leaving four people with bullet wounds. Later, Miraz died at the CMCH. 

Alauddin group, follower of local AL man Abdul Kuddus, and Anwar group, follower of local AL man Mehedi Hasan, were in conflict of extortion collection from the area, from people especially from the land owners who are in the middle of constructing their building, said police.
