The Liberation War Affairs Ministry has cancelled fake freedom fighter certificates of 35 government officials and employees.
An order signed by Deputy Secretary Md Salimullah was published yesterday afternoon.
According to the report of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and district administrations, 32 of the public servants could not provide any convincing evidence in participating in the 1971 Liberation War, two did not have the proper age to take part in the war while another certificate was cancelled as the person had received two certificates.
Since 2009, a total of 116 fake certificates of public servants have been cancelled, the report says. Investigation into over 500 other allegations is underway.
Of the 35, many have already lost their jobs while others will face departmental action.
The persons include OSD Deputy Secretary of Public Administration Ministry Sheikh Alauddin, Railway’s Additional General Manager Solaiman Chowdhury, Assistant Administrative Officer of the Agriculture Ministry Abdur Rashid Hawlader, Chief Accounts Officer of the Food Ministry Jainal Abedin, Tax Inspector Delwar Hossain, Sonali Bank’s Senior Executive ATM Abdul Hai Khan, Town Sub-Inspector of Chandpur Nurunnabi Patwari, Constable of Rajarbagh Police Lines Solaiman Bishwas, former manager of Jamuna Oil Company Golam Rab Mollah and Office Assistant of Ashashuni education office Abul Hossain.
Among others are Railway Ministry’s Shafiar Rahman and Abdul Wares, Home Ministry’s Abdul Alim and Shafiqul Islam, Health Ministry’s Azhar Ali Khan, Land Ministry’s ALM Bazlur Rahman, Primary Education Ministry’s ATM Shahjahan, Education Ministry’s Danesh Miah, Agriculture Ministry’s Abbas Ali Khan, Customs’ Sheikh Mahbubul Islam, Dhaka DC office’s Harun-Or-Rashid Khan and Munshiganj DC office’s Shahjad Azim, former primary school headmasters Ranjit Kumar Roy and Mojibor Rahman and former assistant teachers Rawshan Alam and AKM Habibullah, Collector of Naogaon municipality AKM Jalal Uddin and Health Assistant of the same municipality Hashem Ali.
The fake certificates provided by Rajapur of Jhalkathi’s KA Nijahar Uddin, Singair of Manikganj’s Abu Hossain Miah, Ulipur of Kurigram’s Mohammad Ali, Begumganj of Noakhali’s Nur Islam, Shyamnagar of Satkhira’s MA Majid (one of the two certificates), Joypurhat’s Belal Hossain Akanda and Abdul Malek from Ghatail of Tangail were also cancelled.
