Muggers snatch Tk3 lakh shooting two

Muggers have been become arrogant amid rampant mugging incidents ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, a separate gang of muggers made off with Tk3 lakh by shooting an engineer and a trader in the capital’s Adabar and Kamalapur areas.

The bullet wounded victims engineer Manjurul Alam, 27, of a mobile operator company and plastic trader Mostofa Kamal of Lalbagh were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

“I was on the way to the Dhanmondi Branch of Eastern Bank after drawing Tk2.5 lakh from the Dutch Bangla Bank branch at Ring Road around 2:30pm,” said engineer Manjurul.

He added: “As I reached near the Suchona Community Centre, three muggers riding a motorcycle intercepted me and tried to snatch my bag containing the money.”

He said the criminals sped away with the motorcycle by shooting at his leg as he had tried to resist them.

Manjurul’s uncle Akhbar Ali said Manjurul works at the Gulshan branch of Robi.

In another incident, Tk50,000 was snatched by shooting plastic trader Mostofa Kamal around 4:30pm in front of the bus counter near the Kamalapur Railway Station.

A resident of Haider Bokhs Lane in Lalbagh, Mostofa Kamal said he had gone to Kamalapur Railway Station by bus for going to Chittagong.

“As soon as I got out of the bus, six to seven youths intercepted me and took away my money by shooting at my leg in presence of several hundred people,” said Mostofa.

He said sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam of Motijheel police station rushed him to the DMCH for treatment.
