For the convenience of homebound passengers, Bangladesh Railways and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) are set to start selling advance tickets from tomorrow, Sunday, July 20, ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival of Muslims, for the convenience of homebound passengers.
"Keeping Eid festival in mind, railway will sell advance ticket for five consecutive days from July 20. Important rail stations including capital Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Dinajpur will sell advance tickets," Director General of Bangladesh Railways Md Tofazzel Hossain told BSS.
He said apart from the sale of advance tickets, necessary measure for 'special train service' of five-pair trains has taken on the Eid-ul- Fitr so that home-bound people can spend their Eid with their near and dear ones amid a comfortable journey, reported BSS.
"Adequate security measures have also been taken at the time of the tickets sale," he added.
Officials said tickets for the journey of July 24 will be sold on July 20, tickets for July 25 will be available on July 21, tickets for July 26 will be supplied on July 22, tickets for July 27 will be available on July 23 and advance tickets for July 28 will be given on July 24.
They said each passenger will be allowed to procure maximum four tickets and tickets sold earlier will not be returned.
Train service of 'Maitree Expresses' on the Dhaka-Kolkata - Dhaka route will remain suspended on July 29 and 30, railway sources added.
Meanwhile, BRTC will start selling its advance tickets for the home-bound people from Sunday morning. The advance tickets will be available at Motijheel, Gazipur, Joarsahara, Uthali, Naraynaganj, Double-decker and Kollyanpur depots of BRTC.
"The 'Eid Special Service' will begin from July 24. Total 900 new buses will be included in the fleet of BRTC in the capital and outside Dhaka," BRTC Deputy General Manager (Operation) told BSS.
He said all necessary steps were taken to ensure a hassle- free journey for the home-bound passengers.
