Five die in separate incidents in Jessore

Five people have died in separate incidents in different parts of Jessore district from Friday night to Saturday morning.

The deceased are Anisur Rahman, 32, son of Waziar Rahman, of Baliadanga village under Satkhira sadar upazila, Sumita Akhter, 14, student of class –IX, Hashimpur High School, Jessore, Mahmudul Mandol, 35, son of Madhu Mandol, of Shahbazpur village under Jessore Sadar upazila, Dhiraj Mollah, 50, of Sheikhhati village under Kotwali police station, Jessore, and Ismail Hossain, 36, son of Aynuddin, of Amritabazar village under Jhikargachha upazila.

Ahmed Kabir, officer-in-charge of Sharsha police station said: “Anisur Rahman was killed in a gunfight between the police and his accomplices in Jessore around 2am. Satkhira police took him to Jessore with the help of Sharsa police in order to recover arms.”

“But, Anisur's cohorts engaged in a gunfight with the police during the operation, leaving Anisur dead on the spot.”

Sumita's uncle Fazlur Rahman said: “Sumita hanged herself from the ceiling after being sexually harassed by her neighbour Milon. Critically injured Sumita has been rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital, where she died at 12:30 am.”

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge, Kotwali police station, said: “The body of Mahmudul Mandol was recovered from a mango cluster at Churamankathi village under sadar upazila. The reason behind his death could be known immediately.”

The body of Dhiraj Mollah was recovered from New Town Park in Jessore town, said Miraz Mosaddeq, sub inspector, New Town police camp.

“He was tortured to death.”

Mosfarraf Hossain, officer-in-charge, Jhikargachha police station, said Ismail Hossain was strangled to death by unidentified miscreants.
