The approach roads leading to the Garabari Bridge in Kamarkhanda upazila of Sirajganj have become unfit for use within a month of being formally inaugurated by the Communications Minister Obaidul Quader.
The Tk5 crore project was assigned to a company called Mir Habibul and Mir Shariful JB based in Natore but was implemented by local government backed contractor Palestine Dulal.
Fretting over the dilapidated condition of the newly inaugurated bridge, locals and Sirajganj-2 MP Habibe Millat Munna blamed the sub-standard construction work by the contractor.

Despite visible cracks on the protection embankments under the bridge, it was inaugurated by the communications minister on June 14, claimed locals.
After inauguration, reporters informed the matter to the minister, they said.
Officials at the Roads and Highways Department said the cracks that have appeared on the protection embankments along the joint expansions under the bridge were not alarming and would be repaired soon.
RHD Sub-Divisional Engineer Ashraful Islam said the heavy rain in the last few days was responsible for the cracks and for the time being it had been repaired with sand.
Echoing Ashraful Islam, Executive Engineer of the department Md Moniruzzaman said the repair work would start today with the assigned contractor and that it might take eight to 10 days to repair.
The construction work for the bridge started in December last year. Local people urges authorities concerened to repair the road as early as possible.
