Celebrity paying homage to a legend

Humayun Ahmed was one of the pioneers who broke the theatrical acting on the screen and introduced the flavour of real life in TV plays, which is still widely practised and appreciated in the small screen. As a filmmaker, he was also successful in popularising simplicity and casual way of acting on the big screen. With his magical touch, many actors’ career have been changed.

Dhaka Tribune caught up with celebrities who shared their feelings about the icon:

Riaz

He is one of the few geniuses I have ever come across.  He had a fabulous personality. I have enjoyed working with him more than working with anyone else. The way he use to write and explain the scripts, and above all during characterisation, he was the best.

I would say, Humayun Ahmed was a blessed personality. He always achieved what he wanted and he always got it right. Not having him among us is a loss for everyone concerned. A “talent box” with pro activeness and dynamism, he was indeed an enlightened person. He played a pivotal role in my career. I received National Film Awards as the Best Actor for “Dui Duari” directed by Humayun Ahmed in 2000 and also received Best Actor in “Daruchini Diwp”  in 2007, which was written by Humayun Ahmed. The way I got along with him, I can tell for sure that I was one of his favourites. I used to accompany him while he was writing scripts and he use to call me his “pet artist.” He inspired me and showed me how to work in different roles.

Whenever I talk about Humayun Sir, I get tears in my eyes. He is still with us and will always remain among us.  I still feel his presence everywhere. I have worked with him for eight to nine years. I performed in Humayun sir’s play “Ei Megh Ei Roddur.” Later, I performed in many plays of the late writer and director. He encouraged me and taught me to be a better actor each and everyday. I also performed in movies “Shyamal Chhaya” and “Noy Number Bipod Sangket” directed by the legend.

He was like a father to me, always warm and welcoming. I live away from my parents, but, sir never let me feel their absence. A kind person, he was there during my bad times. He always said: “I am here” which gave me mental support. The way he wrote scripts made an actor a better performer.

Humayun Ahmed was a sky or an ocean for me. He is like a shadow and I see him everywhere. Humayun Ahmed is the centre of my life. What I am today, as an actor or a director, it is all because of him. He taught me everything from scratch and made me what I am today. For many he might be a part, but for me he is everything. All my affections and emotions revolve around him.
