Proper support for flourishing abilities of autistic children stressed

Speakers at the launching ceremony of a school for the intellectually disabled and autistic children have stressed for mainstreaming them through extending proper supports in flourishing their talents and abilities.

They were addressing launching ceremony of Ghoraghat Branch of the School for the intellectually disabled children at Khodadatpur Jubo Samaj Kallyn Samity premises in Ghoraghat pourashava town of Dinajpur on Friday afternoon.

Society for Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID) in Bangladesh extended assistances in establishing the school for educating the mentally retarded children of the area to make them able and worthy citizens.

Member of the Parliament from Dionajour-6 constituency Md Sibley Sadik attended the ceremony as the chief guest with Chairman of Ghoraghat Branch of the School for the Intellectually Disabled Children Samiul Islam in the chair.

President of SWID Bangladesh Zaoaherul Islam Mamun inaugurated the newly established school.

General Secretary of Ghoraghat upazila Awami League Abdur Rouf Khandker Shahanshah, Mayor of Ghoraghat pourashava Abdus Sattar Milan, social worker Ali Ferdous Khokan, Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Thana Farhad Imrul Kayes, attended as the special guests.

Appreciating the authorities of SWID Bangladesh for is assistance in launching of the school in Ghoraghat, the speakers said the school would definitely play vital role in turning the autistic and mentally retarded children into worthy citizens for the nation.

The chief guest stressed for ensuring congenial environment for the autistic children to flourish their latent talents and abilities with an ultimate goal of mainstreaming them with the process of building a developed Bangladesh.

The intellectually retarded children must be treated as integral part of the society as many of them have already been proving their ability and talent in education, sports and other extra curricular activities like the common children, he said. 

Later, he committed for building two class rooms with necessary facilities in the school and the pourashava Mayor committed for donating Taka 20,000 for development of the institution.
