At least 30 people have been injured in a clash between police and garment workers in the Narsighapur area of Ashulia in Savar on Saturday morning.
The clash erupted when police attempted to disperse the demonstrating workers of Surma Textile from the road in Savar Municipality area in the morning.
The workers demonstrated to press home their demand for payment of wages and Eid bonuses.
Police lobbed several rounds of tear-shells and also charged batons to disperse the workers, leaving 30 workers injured.
The workers, in reply, also threw bricks.
In the mean time, the workers of two other garment factories-MD Garments and Baxter Brenton-- took to the street in order to press home the same demand.
Police also engaged in a chase and counter chase with them. However, no report of injuries has been filed.
Mostafizur Rahman, director of industrial police, said police have brought the situation under control. Additional forces have been deployed in the area in order to avert further unrest.
