Rajbari, Khulna road crashes kill 5

Five people, including a police constable, have been killed and 22 other people injured in two separate road accidents in Rajbari and Khulna districts early Thursday.

Rajbari: Three people, including a police constable, have been killed and 15 others injured in a road mishap on the Daulatdia-Khulna Highway in Sadar upazila of the district early in the morning.

Rajbari highway police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Hossain Sardar has confired about the deaths, reports UNB.

Two of the deceased were identified as constable Rubel Hossain of Kandebpur village in Meherpur district, and Harun Sheikh of Sonapur village in Mollahat upaziula of Bagerhat district while another could not be identified yet.

The OC said a patrol team of police was helping some people to get on a bus on the highway in Nimtala area around 1:30am.

The accident took place around 1:30am when a moving truck ran over the people and policemen from behind, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and 16 others, including five policemen, injured.

The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared constable Rubel dead.

Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene.

Khulna: Two people, including a truck driver, have been killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between two trucks on the Khan Jahan Ali Bridge in the city early hours of Wednesday. 

The deceased were identified as Kamrul, 38, driver of a truck and son of Wajed Sheikh of Chitalmari of Bagerhat district, and truck rider Rafiqul Islam, 36.

Police said the Khulna-bound speeding truck from Bagerhat collided with a mini truck coming from the opposite direction on the bridge in Rupsha around 3.30am, leaving Kamal, driver of the mini truck, and its rider Rafiqul dead on the spot and seven other riders of the two trucks injured.

The injured were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
