Govt for withdrawing CID from Narayanganj murder probe

The government yesterday submitted another petition with the High Court for withdrawal of the Criminal Investigation Department from the probe into Narayanganj seven-murder incident.

The CID itself, however, did not say anything to this end, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the Dhaka Tribune.

In his petition, the attorney general requested the High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore to annul its order that engaged the CID alongside the DB police to investigate the case.

On June 4, the court rejected a similar plea placed by Mahbubey Alam. The investigation was initiated at the behest of the bench’s order of May 5.

He said he had submitted his petition on the instruction of the Appellate Division. Later, the court adjourned the proceedings. The bench will resume the hearing today.

Mahbubey Alam was also allowed to submit the progress reports of the CID along with three other update reports over the incident today.

Earlier, the bench expressed satisfaction twice over the CID progress report.

Later at a briefing, the attorney general said they had placed the petition as the Code of Criminal Procedure does not permit investigation into the same incident by two agencies.

In reply to a question, he said people in no way doubted the investigation if the CID was withdrawn.
