A good number of people under the city staged demonstration and bring out a broom procession yesterday demanding smooth gas supply there.
Sources said several thousand people under the banner of “Amra Narayanganjbasi” brought out a procession in the town around 11am protesting the interrupted gas supply prevailed for long there and then they put a blockade in front of the Narayanganj Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution building in Balur Mat area halting all sorts of movement there.
Through holding a rally there, the blockade programme lasted for about one and half hours, where senior leaders of the organisation addressed the rally.
Amra Narayanganjbasi organisation president Nur uddin said low gas pressure is a long-standing crisis of the district and they had been urging the authorities concerned repeatedly to solve it.
He alleged that the Titas gas authorities did not pay any heed to the problem resulting it worsened during the Ramadan.
He threatened to not pay gas bill unless the uninterrupted gas supply is ensured to the consumers.
On the other hand, Narayanganj City unit BNP and its associate bodies hold a rally in front of the district press club around 12:30pm protesting the gas crisis and huge number of general people joined the programme.
Afterwards, they bring out a broom procession and they cordoned off the Titas gas building till 1:30pm halting all activities there.
During the addressing rally, Narayanganj City unit general secretary of BNP ATM Kamal blamed the corrupt officials of Titas and the dishonest local leaders for the crisis, who have made illegal way for the local factories that consuming huge quantity of gas depriving the others.
He also threatened to go for tougher movement including the local administration cordon off if the crisis in not solved within one week.
