British actor Emma Watson, who has been appointed by UN Women as goodwill ambassador to advocate for the empowerment of young women, has already been involved in promoting girls’ education and visiting Bangladesh and Zambia.
Emma, best known for her role as Hermione in the “Harry Potter” film series, said: “Being asked to serve as UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador is truly humbling.”
“Women’s rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life, that I can’t imagine an opportunity more exciting,” she said.
She will now work for UN Women’s HeForShe campaign which calls for men and boys to stand up against inequalities faced by women and girls around the world.
Other UN Women goodwill ambassadors include Oscar-winning actor Nicole Kidman and Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol.
