UP chairman sued for assaulting member

A female member of Ampara union parishad in Rajoir upazila filed a case with the local police station against its chairman for physically assulting her after acusing her of stealing money.

The victim, Sarwasati Baroi, filed the case with Rajoir police station yesterday, where she accused Ampara union parishad chairman Zamir Uddin Khan.  The had incident had occured on Friday. However on Sunday, Sarwasati admitted herself to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for treatment.

On the other hand, the chairman earlier filed a case against the UP member for stealing Tk1 lakh from him.

Local sources said Tk1 lakh was stolen from Zamir’s drawer on June 29 and he used the help of a local shaman to identify the thief who blamed Sarwasati for the theft.

Later, Zamir charged Sarwasati and physicall assulited her with a stick before other UP members when she denied the allegation.

When contacted, Zamir refuted the allegations of beating, saying his rivals in connivance with Sarwasati was blaming him intentionally to gain influence over the local politics.

Uttam Kumar Pal, additional police super of Madaripur, said they would take action against the real culprits after investigation.
