Miscreants tried to abduct a witness against convicted war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury at Mohammadpur of Chittagong on Sunday night.
Abbas Uddin, chairman of Gojra union parishad, was returning to his residence when a group of miscreants numbering six to seven attacked him and tried to force him into a micro-bus.
Hearing Abbas Uddin's hue and cry, pedestrians came forward to help him and the miscreants fled the scene.
Abbas informed Panchlaish police from the spot who then rushed in and took him to the police station.
Abbas could recognise four of the miscreants. Their names are: Babul, Hannan, Farid and Syed.
Panchlaish police station Officer-in-Charge Abu Jafar Mohammad Omar Faruk endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
"I gave deposition against Salauddin Quader Chowdhury in the war crimes case. The miscreants might have attacked me and tried to abduct me for that reason," Abbas told the Dhaka Tribune over phone.
