The three-day annual conference of deputy commissioners set to begin tomorrow will discuss several decisions that were made last year but have remained unimplemented, officials said yesterday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the series of meetings at Shapla Hall of her office at 9:30am.
Twenty sessions, in which 307 proposals are likely to be discussed, will be held at the Secretariat’s conference room. Divisional commissioners and DCs have already submitted lists of topics and are expected to share their ideas with the government high-ups, including the ministers.
The DCs had sent over 450 proposals this year for discussion.
Out of the 474 decisions made in the previous conference held on July 23-25 last year, as many as 38 remained unimplemented, according to the cabinet division.
Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said yesterday: “The decision to strengthen the authority of executive magistrates could not be implemented in the past year because of legal complications. The Law Ministry has yet to suggest necessary measures to the cabinet.
“Though the decision was not implemented, the deputy commissioners may discuss the issue again in the upcoming DC conference. The government will make a decision after hearing them.”
Musharraf made the remark while briefing reporters at the Secretariat.
Land management, improvement of law and order, strengthening local government, disaster management, relief and rehabilitation, poverty eradication, social safety net, regulating price hikes, healthcare, family planning, improving the quality of education, increasing literacy rate, ICT applications, e-governance, environment protection and execution of various development projects are likely to be discussed at the conference.
Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Nazrul Islam said: “About 307 topics will be discussed at the conference where 39 ministries and departments will take part. Of the previous decisions, 92% have thus far been implemented.”
Earlier, Musharraf said the government had taken initiatives to implement all the decisions. “Some of the decisions can be solved by the ministries concerned. Sometimes the government needs to coordinate with several ministries to implement some decisions.
“We have no negligence in implementing the decisions of the DC conferences,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.
