Customs Department officials, in separate incidents, have arrested two people with 7.6kg gold at Hazarat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday morning.
Assistant Commissioner of the Customs Department said they arrested one Shaheenur Alam with six gold bars weighing 6kg immediately after his arrival at Dhaka airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Malaysia around 6am.
Customs Department officials said the gold bars were wrapped with tape and hidden under the feet of the detainee.
In another incident, another person was held with 14 gold bars weighting to 1.6kg around 9am, said Alamgir Hossain Shimul, an additional superintendent of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
He said Manjurul Huq Sumon, 26, was arrested with the gold while he was leaving the airport after his arrival in Dhaka on another flight of the national flag carrying airlines from Dubai.
