NBR to honour top VAT payers July 10

For the fourth consecutive years, the National Board of Revenue is set to award the top value added tax (VAT) paying companies on July 10 for their outstanding contribution to the government’s exchequer.

The board is, however, yet to finalise the names of the potential companies and also the total number of award recipients as the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is still busy in scrutinising the primary list, said a high NBR official.

He also said the top VAT-paying companies will be awarded with a crest along with a certificate on July 10 at a ceremony to be held in the capital.

From the final list, nine top VAT payers will be awarded from the national level while the rest will be awarded from the district level under three categories production, services and business.

The revenue body has chalk out various programmes to observe the VAT day on 10 July.

The central programmes include a rally and the award-giving ceremony while the district VAT commissionerates will also observe the day through different programmes to encourage more people to pay more VATs.

Meanwhile, the NBR board has also decided to celebrate a VAT-Week from July 10-16.

In the FY2013-14, the board has set the highest revenue target for the VAT wing at Tk46,850 crore while the board has collected Tk38,996 crore till May, this year.
