The government would recruit some 50,000 police members soon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Wednesday.
She came up with the disclosure while replying to a written question from treasury bench member Shamsul Haque Chowdhury during her question-answer session in the House, reports BSS.
“Moreover, a process for constituting a special counter-intelligence unit is underway with a view to contain terrorism,” she said.
The premier said a total of 30,474 new manpower had been added to the police force by creating new specialised units.
“Creation of 1,557 new posts is under process,” she said.
Hasina said her government was following “zero tolerance” policy to root out terrorism.
