India agrees to extradite Nur Hossain

The Indian government has agreed to send back Nur Hossain, the prime accused of seven murders in Narayanganj.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali made the disclosure replying to a supplementary question of Jatiya Party MP Pir Fazlur Rahman in the House on Wednesday.

The sitting of the Jatiya Sangsad resumed at 11.27am with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Ali said: “During India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Bangladesh, we requested India to deport Nur Hossain under repatriation treaty.”

“Following the request, India has agreed to extradite Nur Hossain,” the foreign minister said.

“We, now, will send formal request to India to send back Nur Hossain.”

On June 14, Nur Hossain was arrested along with three of his accomplices at Kaliakair under Baguhati police station in India.

Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others were abducted on April 27 and their bodies were recovered from the Shitalakkha River on April 30.

Nazrul's wife filed an abduction case against Nur on April 28.

India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj came to Bangladesh in a three-day official visit on June 25.

During her visit, India's external affairs minister held talks with her Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on bilateral issues between the two countries.

In the meeting, Nur Hossain’s repatriation issue was also discussed and Sushma said the Indian government would positively consider regarding the matter.
