Tk62 lakh antique Vishnu idol found in Dinajpur

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered an ancient idol of Hindu lord Vishnu in a drive worth around Tk62 lakh in the international market. It was recovered from the house of an artefact trafficker at Sayedpur village in Birganj upazila here yesterday. However, no arrest was made in the drive.

BGB 2 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Hasan said a team of BGB members, on a tip-off, conducted a drive on the house of one Shahjahan Ali, son of Mukhlesur Rahman, in the village at the crack of dawn and recovered the touchstone-made idol weighing 62kg. During the raid, the family members fled the house sensing the presence of the border guard members.

The idol might have been kept in the house to traffic elsewhere, the commander continued. A case was launched with Birganj police station in this connection.
