The government will provide smart Identification Cards to citizens from the beginning of the year 2015.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq came up with the disclosure in the Jatiya Sangsad while replying to a question from independent lawmaker M Rustom Ali Farazi on Saturday, reports BSS.
The government has taken a project on 'Identification System for Enhancing access to Services (IDEA) under Election Commission', with the assistance of World Bank's loan.
The project was taken, keeping a provision to provide smart ID cards to citizens, he informed the House.
The implementation work of the IDEA project began on July 1, 2011 and is expected to be completed on June 30, 2016, Anisul Huq, also minister in-charge of election commission secretariat in parliament affairs, informed.
