A village arbitrator has been killed at Koichorpara of Jamnagar union of Bagatipara upazila in the district on Friday night.
The deceased is Yeasin Ali, son of late Bahar Uddin of the village, Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bagatipara police station said.
He said: “Locals detained Saidur Rahman, son of Sadar Ali, with a widow in an illegal situation. Later, a village court called Saidur on Friday night but he did not appear.”
Following the matter, Saidur and his followers detained Yeasin and beat him severely while he was returning home from the village court, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Natore Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
'The victim's son Roni alias Lalon lodged a murder case against five including Saidur in this connection', the OC added.
