The information ministry has formed a 10-member committee following the directives of High Court to prevent distortion of Bangla language in public and private electronic media.
The committee is led by information ministry joint secretary (broadcast). The senior assistant secretary (TV 2) will be the member secretary of the probe committee.
The members of the committee are information ministry joint secretary (law and order), representatives from education ministry, Dhaka University, Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, Association of TV Channel Owners (ATCO) and private radio stations owners.
On February 17, the High Court ordered the government to take steps to ensure the use of Bangla on the nameplates of vehicle registration, signboards and billboards across the country.
Public administration ministry asked all the ministries, divisions and public offices to ensure implementation of the High Court order on the use of the Bengali language in every sphere of the country on May 14.
Later on May 29, the court asked the information secretary to take measures to stop in a month publishing advertisements of electronic and print media in English language unless there is any unavoidable reason.
