Both the factions of Gonojagoron Moncho have condemned the postponement of the verdict against Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami alleging that it was a conspirecy.
The International Crimes Tribunal 1 deferred the verdict as Nizami suddenly fell sick on Tuesday morning.
Imran H Sarker, leader of a faction, in his reaction, said: “We have noticed from the very beginning that a conspiracy is being hatched over the war crimes trials and verdicts.”
He said: “We sensed it yesterday [Monday] that such thing could happen as Jamaat was silent over the issue. But, the people will not compromise with the issue. We will fight against it.”
Declaring to continue with their movement, the faction announced to bring out a procession from the Shahbagh intersection towards Dhaka University campus area. It will also stage a protest rally in the evening.
Imran's faction will set fire at the efiggy of Nizami condemning the tribunal's decision around 6pm.
On the other hand, Kamal Pasha Chowdhury, leader of another faction, said: “The defence lawyers made an excuse to delay the verdict. It was cunning move by the Jamaat members.”
He also announced a protest rally demanding fast trial of war criminals on June 27.
Sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini, a Birangona of Liberation War, said: “Conspiracy regarding the war crimes trial is going on. The verdict of Delawar Hossain Sayedee's is also being delayed for more than a year. Now we have suspicion whether any verdict of the war crimes will be executed next.”
