Bangladeshi siblings killed in Bengazi blast

Two Bangladeshi siblings, who are migrant workers, have been killed in a missile explosion at a residential camp of water purification plant in Libya's port city of Bengazi.

The victims are Mohammad Milon and Mohammad Swapan of Shariatpur district.

Anwar Jahid, assistant director of The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about the deaths on Monday afternoon.

He said: “The two brothers have been killed in a missile attack at the residential camp of water purification plant, Sama Libya, in Bengazi at 10:30pm on Saturday. Two more Bangladeshis have received injuries in the blast. They are Ibrahim and Kamal.

Ibharim has been released from the hospital after taking primary treatment while the condition of Kamal is very critical,” he added.

“After the blast, the plant authorities shifted 32 others Bangladeshi workers to a safe place. Besides, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has advised the 25,000 Bangladeshi migrants living in Bengazi to take extra safety measures in order to avert further incidents.”

Earlier on February 21, two Bangladeshi workers were killed in Libya when their taxi got caught in a gunfight near the port city of Bengazi.

Around 40,000 Bangladeshis are now working in Libya.
