State to appeal seeking death for lifers

The government will appeal to the Higher Court seeking death penalty for the life sentenced convicts in Ramna Batamul killing case.

State Counsel Abdullah Abu said: “The verdict has done partial justice. The judge did not read the full verdict.”

“We will appeal against the life term imprisonment awarded to six accused of the case,” he said.

Answering to a query, he said: “We do not have any idea about the location of the accused who are at large. But we are trying and will try to bring them back and execute their punishment."

He also hoped that the verdict will be executed soon.

The prosecutor said: “The militant act was preplanned and executed in order to ruin Bangladeshis culture.”

Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court has sentenced death to eight accused including Huji chief Mufti Hannan in the sensational Ramna Batamul killing case.
