Five members of a family have sustained burn injuries in a fire incident in their house at Ibrahimpur of the capital’s Kafrul.
Injured victims identified as Joynal Abedin, 38, his wife Piyara Begum, 35, their son Rabiul Hasan and Rabbi and Joynal’s sister Khadiza, 18, were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital Burn Unit.
Hailing from Muladi upazila in Barisal district, they are the tenants of a tin-shed house of Babul Miah, near Al-Amin Mosque.
DMCH sources said Joynal sustained burns on 35% of his body while his wife Piyara on 30%, Rabiul on 15% Rabbi on 12% and Khadiza on 20% of her body.
Rabiul is a student of Class IV at Kafrul School and his brother Rabbi of Class II.
A brother-in-law of Joynal, Rafiqul Islam said the fire originated from a mosquito coil in their house around 4am.
On information of the fire they went to their house and rushed them to the hospital, said Rafiqul.
Piyara said the fire engulfed their entire house in moments after it touched their mosquito net.
Sub-inspector Mozammel Huq, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said they had informed the local police station about the incident for looking into it.
